JAMES SUCKLING - SOLEDÌ WINES 2020| TASTING REPORT NOVEMBER 2023

“Finally, two of our top wines this week are from the Swiss winery Soledi, a couple of kilometers from the border with Italy. Their terraced vineyard in Ticino is planted to merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot vines, half of which are over 50 years of age.

We were impressed by the Soledi Rosso del Ticino Nik1 2020, a polished and tight Bordeaux-style blend showing fantastic freshness and a citrus edge, with a little more density than the 2019. We also liked the Soledi Rosso del Ticino Emiole 2020, a cabernet franc-led blend with some merlot, for its fragrant aromas, depth and focus. Both need another couple of years in bottle. 2020 is only their fourth vintage, but these wines are the best that we have tasted yet and are already impressive. One to watch.”

AFTER? IT WILL BE AWESOME

We proudly celebrate this recognition of the 2022 Michelin star which honors the courage of our Chef patron Felice Lo Basso.

10 years and 5 restaurants are his story with a piece of the starry sky. But since he was a child his passion for cooking made him determined to pursue a dream full of passion and research.

Today this star confirms that the courage to change was strong within him: there is no use wanting if you don't have the courage to change!

His dream, his home: an invitation for guests to become protagonists of the same scene. Felix has redesigned the concept of welcome and hospitality, thus promoting dialogue and a more meaningful experience.

This prestigious award confirms that Chef Lo Basso's concept is in effect a coherent way of sharing the experience with guests.

Come on Chef! You are the star and we, the whole team, your sky!

GIULIANO CORMANO

WINE MAKER SOLEDÌ WINES

Tradition, creativity and innovation are our foundations.

We integrate honesty, integrity and ethics into all aspects of our production.

The uniqueness of our wines comes from the particular terroir: microclimate, grape varieties, territory, culture and gastronomy.

Our constant pursuit of excellence and our passion allow us to produce labels of great finesse, elegance and class.

Our wines are conceived with this research and passion.

WINES PRODUCED WITH LOVE | VINEYARDS: 60 years of history

In the village of Morbio Inferiore, the hilly terrain and the immediate proximity to the mountains and lakes create a microclimate that contributes to making our wines truly special.

The constant breeze, cool nights and warm days are the ideal climatic conditions for the right growth of the vine.

The special formation of our gravelly soil makes it extremely rich in minerals. It is this incredible terroir that, also thanks to craftsmanship, gives our wines unique characteristics.

Our goal is to create wines of the highest quality, which are ready for the future but also consistent with those rituals and historical processes that have attracted men to wine for tens of centuries.

The impeccable quality we seek can only be the result of great care, hard work and great love for detail that each of us puts into our work.

The hills planted with vineyards are ideal for the production of typical Bordeaux varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

CORNEY & BARROW

We are the outposts in Asia of London’s oldest wine merchant and we opened our offices in 2010 in Hong Kong to service our local clients.

At over 240 years old, Corney & Barrow is one of the longest established Independent Wine Merchants in the UK.

In 1780, Edward Bland Corney opened his shop on London’s Old Broad Street, offering a small selection of port, sherry and Bordeaux. The business flourished, and in 1838, his son, Thomas introduced his cousin Robert Barrow to the trade. The Corney & Barrow name was born. Today, our offices have grown to the north of England, Scotland, Hong Kong and Singapore, and have expanded into every sector of the market. We became the first traditional wine merchant to establish a wine broking operation and our merchant business is growing every day. Still privately owned, 75% of our portfolio is exclusive to us – a testament to the dedication of our relationships. Our range has grown to include the highest quality wines, from everyday drinking to the heights of Petrus and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. We insist on excellence in everything we do, just as Misters Corney & Barrow would have done.

VINO AMORÉ

Where Wine Meets Love

Founded in 2019, the company was named Vino Amore because we felt that wine and love go hand in hand (also with some chocolate if you wish), as love is very much required to create good wines.

From Pinot Grigio planted as high as 600 metres above sea level in Alto Adige, to “Super Tuscan” blend from Central Italy and big juicy Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, we painstakingly curate our wine list, selecting to working mainly with family-owned or artisanal producers spanning across countries such as Australia, France, Italy, Spain and U.S.A.

While some wines are available throughout the year, a handful of labels are only released by wineries on limited quantities or through allocation once a year.
